Murder suspect still at large in Kampong Speu

The family of a woman murdered by a suspect who broke out of a police station while in custody last week yesterday expressed disappointment that the suspect had not been caught, and accused police of having no interest in tracking him down.
Chum Thorn, 50, a nephew of 71-year-old victim Toch Nech, who was killed in Kampong Speu province’s Samrong Tong district last Monday, said he was now making a complaint to the provincial court, and would have done so sooner had he any faith in authorities’ commitment to catching 32-year-old Pounh Chanrith.
“I suspect the police released the suspect and spread information that he had broken bars on the window and escaped,” Thorn said.
“I was not allowed to see the bars where the man broke out when I asked police.”
Sam Sak, chief of Kampong Speu provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said police were working hard to find Chanrith.
Keo Sothea, Kampong Speu provincial prosecutor, said yesterday that reporters should leave authorities to do their work. “Give us time to continue to investigate and don’t be hasty,” he said.
